My personal message

Thank you for considering to support the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry on my ride across the nation to spread awareness about children’s mental illnesses. Between August 16th and October 22d, 2017 I will cycle over 5,000 miles, from Seattle to Washington DC. All funds raised (over $118,000 to date) will support Academy activities in clinical outreach, training and education, and research. Thank you for your generous support! Why do I Break the Cycle? Professionally • To raise awareness and further the Academy’s efforts about what we are so passionate about: that mental illnesses in kids are real, common, and treatable • To make the point that these conditions are also preventable: that exercise is as good a 'prescription’ as we have in our toolkit • To help break the stigma associated with mental illnesses • To raise funds to support the training of a new generation of child and adolescent psychiatrists • To give others early and transformative educational and mentorship opportunities similar to those I have been fortunate to receive • To give back to the Academy, which has been my professional home for over two decades Personally • To make a really big dream happen • To get to know a country that embraced me as an immigrant and that I now love as a proud citizen • To redefine my personal sense and definition of ‘endurance’ • To plumb the depths of my inner sense of ‘grit’ • To welcome and embrace a midlife crisis - and to let no crisis, personal or otherwise, go to waste
