Volunteers Needed!

Please read through the descriptions below and see if you may be a good fit for one (or more!) and let us know. We will do our best to place everyone in their first choice. We thank you in advance for your time and help. With out the wonderful work of our volunteers we would not be able to host events like these!!

Hike for Hospice Volunteer Roles 2017

       Before the day of event:

  • Hike Advocates:
  • Needed: 4-6
    • Help before the actual day of the event including calling out to past participants to invite them to participate again, calling local community groups asking them to help us promote the Hike, putting together promotional packages / information packages and reaching out to our local businesses for support.
    • Skills:Enjoy talking with people, good telephone manner, some attention to detail
    • Time commitment:Feb to April, 2016, day or evening, as much or little time as you can give


    Day of the Hike – May 7, 2017

  • Hospice Site Set-up
  • Needed: 6
    • Get all things into place prior to everyone arriving, will be responsible to make sure all of the major and minor details of the day are set up and ready to go.
    • Skills: Excellent organization, multi-task under time constraint, walking, moderate lifting
    • Time Commitment: 8:30am- 10am

       

  • Parking Marshalls
  • Needed: 5
    • Responsible for overseeing the parking lot, and opening and closing the gates to all Hike participants and volunteers, a chair will be provided.
    • Skills:Some standing, tactful with people
    • Time commitment: 1-2 hour shift, 9 am – 3 pm

       

  • Balloon Volunteers
  • Needed: 2-3
    • Responsible for filling 200 balloons (possible more) with helium, tying them, and getting them ready for the route setters and set-up crew to place around.
    • Skills: Hand ability to operate helium tank safely, tie balloons
    • Time Commitment: 8:30am – 11am

       

  • Pinwheel Station
  • Needed: 2
    • Responsible for setting up all pinwheels (hand-held windmill) and testing the garden area for softness (to plant pinwheels.) Encourage participants to dedicate a pinwheel with a name, and plant it in the garden area, then take their pinwheel with them after the Hike. After the event is over, pack up their station and bring all extras back up to the front of the Hospice.
    • Skills: Communication with people
    • Time Commitment: 10am – 2pm

       

  • Route Setters
  • Needed: 2-4
    • Responsible for going out the morning of the Hike and placing signs and balloons along the route. At the end of the Hike they will be responsible doing a sweep to make sure that all signs and balloons have been brought back in, take all bag signs off the wire frames, fold neatly in half and put all wire frames together.
    • Skills: Walking, light lifting
    • Time Commitment: 9am – 11am and/or 1pm – 2pm

       

  • Registration: (9am – 12pm)
    • This Position has already been filled.

       

  • Route Captain
  • Needed: 1
    • Walking all volunteers out on the morning of the Hike to ensure that they are placed in the correct place according to map.
    • Skills: Vocal communications to a large group, leadership, walking
    • Time Commitment: 10am – 1pm

       

  • Alderwood Rest Station
  • Needed: 2-3
    • Responsible for bringing all of the water and snacks over to Alderwood Community Church and setting up, and serving to all Hikers as they come by. At end, bring unused supplies to the Hospice. One person is required drive all items over and back.
    • Skills: Lifting; one driver with vehicle
    • Time Commitment: 11:30 – 1pm

       

  • Food Station
    • Details to follow

       

  • Bouncy Castle Attendant
  • Needed: 2
    • Responsible to ensure safety, monitoring the bouncy castle and ensuring that there are no more than the allowed number of people in the bouncer at one time. If a line up, time sessions and call out when time is up, to ensure that everyone gets a turn.
    • Skills: Good with children, some standing.
    • Time Commitment: 11am – 2pm

       

  • Face Painting
  • Needed: 2-3
    • If you have an artistic side, this job is for you! Responsible to set up the station with the provided materials, and clean up after the event. All supplies will be provided.
    • Skills: Face painting experience, creative, good with children
    • Time Commitment: 11am – 2pm

       

  • Children’s Activities Table
  • Needed: 2-4
    • Responsible for setting up the station, and helping children and their parents with the different things (bubbles, racket ball, velcro ball, etc.,) pack the station up, and return the items to the front of the Hospice.
    • Skills:Good with kids, organized, multi-tasking, standing, some walking
    • Time Commitment: 11am – 2pm

       

  • Tear Down and Cleanup
  • Needed: 6
  • Responsible for ensuring that all items from the event are packed away and cleared from the outdoor areas. All garbage and recyclables are to be placed in the bins in the back, and a sweep of the yard will be done to ensure that nothing is left out.
  • Skills: Physical strength, standing, walking and lifting
  • Time Commitment: 2pm – 3pm
