On behalf of the Markham Stouffville Hospital Foundation:
Given the unfortunate recent tragedy on Mount Everest and out of respect for the Sherpas that lost their lives, Dr. Shehbaz Butt has decided not to climb Mount Everest this year. He is safely on his way home from Nepal and will be back here in Markham by the weekend.
We are very appreciative of the generous donations that were made as part of the fundraising efforts. At this time, those funds will be held in an account until Dr Butt is able to confirm plans of his Seven Summits completion.
Thank you everyone for your generous support and we look forward to welcoming Shehbaz home.
PLANS ARE ON HOLD

IN KATHMANDU BEFORE THE CLIMB
April 7, 2014 - We have arrived at Kathmandu and are enjoying our days before the start of our climb. I am climbing with my good friend, Joe Raftis and we have officially picked up our climbing permit (#13) and have met with our guide. Our guide is 28 years old and this is his first attempt on Everest. He has guided one other mountain and had a successful summit — so I think we have the only guide on the mountain with a 100 per cent success rate!
